Background
I was born in Germany to a German father and a
Mexican mother. Due to my dad's job, we moved around a lot. I
essentially grew up in 5 countries, and along the way picked up just
as many languages, but more importantly, was fortunate to gain an
invaluable exposure to different cultures, peoples, and economic and
political systems. I lived in some of the most powerful countries in
the world (USA and Germany) as well as some of the most troubled by
violence (Colombia and Mexico) and those subject to tyrannical
regimes (Cuba). Thanks to this upbringing and exposure, I have a
keen understanding and direct personal experience of the benefits
and disadvantages of different types of government, be it
capitalistic and socialistic democracies, as well as full-fledged
socialism.
I have lived in the United States for the past 10 years of
my life. This country saw both of my children be born and I couldn't
be prouder to be able to say that both of them are Americans - and
Texans - by birth.
I whole-heartedly thank this nation not only for all the
opportunities which it has offered to me and my family, but also for
opening the doors to actively participate in the most successful
democracy in the world. Although voting certainly makes an enormous
difference in our leadership, I feel that running for office is the
most honest way of actually effecting change for the betterment of
our children's, our families', our neighbors', and our own lives.
